White temperate springtails (Collembola sp.)
White temperate springtails can adapt to super soggy setups and even vaguely moist ones. These animals are an excellent first layer of cleaner crew and keep both invertebrates and reptiles healthy.
White springtails pose no risk to any other animal, even when they reach a population of thousands. They're so small most hardly notice them. These springtails are also frequently used as feeders for small reptiles and invertebrates.
All springtails are shipped in an 8oz deli container on moist clay medium. We recommend keeping the primary culture in this deli and misting when necessary. To harvest, gently tap springtails into the desired setup or rinse out with water when their population reaches a large size. There is no need to add clay to the setup from the cup.
To encourage a boost in population of springtails, we recommend offering brewer's yeast for the animals to feed on. Just sprinkle it lightly directly on the moist clay medium.
REGARDING AGED CULTURES: These are cultures we have made and allowed the population to grow for 6 weeks. These are 16oz containers, with the sides covered in clay to encourage as much surface area and growth as possible. Due to the time needed to make, these cultures may be limited in supply.
