Rotten wood, or softened hard wood, is an important part of many species of isopods' diet. While all isopods can benefit from being offered rotten wood, key isopods that need it to thrive are the Spanish giants such as P. magnificus. While the nutritional aspect of rotten wood can be mimicked, it is much easier to just offer the wood itself.
Rotten wood is typically a softened hardwood that has been exposed to heat and moisture. Our wood was sourced locally from cottonwood trees, and has been baked to kill off any predatory centipedes or beetles that may be tucked away inside.
